Tips From Experts: (excerpts from feature)
Tear down sheetrock or take off siding….not economical in the short-run Go for the highest R-Value. Beef up your insulation. Foams, Cellulose, fiberglass, reflective aluminum and recycled newsprint and denim. Some are urethane-based, some have formaldehyde, Others have soybean material substitute. Spend money on insulation Today the median age of the American home is 36 years, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. 82% of these houses have had nothing done in the way of attic or insulation replenishment….it is just not done. Old cellulose, fiberglass and recycled paper are doing nothing to keep the heat out or heat and ac in….Reflective Aluminum insulation is a reasonably priced alternative. “future-proofing” your house is not just for the wealthy. Federal rebates, tax credits, energy efficient mortgages and manufacturer’s discounted prices make the process feasible for most homeowners. Remember…the goal is comfort and eventual appreciated re-sale value.

“Foil Insulation is gaining acceptance for a multitude of uses but its primary use is to deflect intense summertime heat away from you home in the summer and act as a thermal barrier keeping your heat in your home in the winter.” While this product holds much promise product quality does vary so be sure to use a version that is proven, warranted, referenced and installed by a knowledgeable contractor. *** 3 of 4 Stars

Roofing & Siding Magazine
March 2008
A recent economic evaluation study of insulation revealed that reflective insulation is the most cost-effective insulation system. Reason: Reflective Insulation provides a better value proposition due to its adequate thermal performance on R-Value and because of its low cost per R-value when compared with other insulations. Greater savings and payback because of its lower installation cost and greater resiliency over time.
