Comfortguard Reflective Insulation

Exterior installation

Exterior installation

Typical attic installation
Most people are familiar with traditional insulating material such as fiberglass, cellulose, styrofoam, and rock wool. These products are designed to absorb or resist (slow down) convective and conductive heat transfer to insulate (R-Value). A seldom discussed but dominant form of heat transfer is “radiant heat transfer”.
Heat transfer can be summarized as follows:
• Conductive – direct contact such as touching a hot pot on the stove results in conductive heat transfer.
• Convective – steam, such as putting your hand above a boiling pot results in convective heat in the form of steam.
• Radiant – Electromagnetic heat transfer results by feeling the rays of the sun on your face during a hot summer day.

All objects above absolute zero emit infrared rays in all directions as a straight line.

The Reflective Insulation reflects radiant heat energy instead of trying to absorb it. What does this mean in your home or business? During the winter you experience 50-75% heat loss through the ceiling and roof and 65-80% heat loss through the walls is radiant. In the summer up to 93% of all heat gain is radiant. If you are depending on R-Value (resistance) alone to insulate against heat gain and loss, remember that thin layers of fiberglass are virtually transparent to radiant energy and are affected by changes in the humidity (moisture levels). A 1 ½ % change in the moisture content of fiberglass insulation will result in a 36% reduction in performance based on technical references from the HCAV Industry Specifications Manual. The Reflective Insulation is unaffected by humidity and will continue to perform at a consistent level no matter what the humidity level.

Fire Walls
House Wrap

Commercial/Industrial Applications
Metal Buildings
Radiant Floor Heating
Plumbing / HVAC
Basement Walls
Comfortguard is a reflective insulation material that offers a permanent way to reduce energy costs by reflecting radiant heat energy instead of trying to absorb it. The 99% aluminum that makes up the Reflective Insulation is unaffected by humidity and will continue to perform a consistent levels regardless of the humidity level. The Reflective Insulation is two layers of aluminum foil sandwiching a mylar insert and is installed in an environmental envelope of the building structure.

The Reflective Insulation
provides increased comfort and dollar savings.
• In the summer, without The Reflective Insulation your roof radiates solar generated heat to the insulation below it.
The insulation absorbs the heat and gradually transfers the heat to the material it touches including the ceiling which radiates heat into the home.
This heat transfer makes your air conditioner run longer and consume more electricity.
• In the winter, without The Reflective Insulation a substantial portion of your heat and living comfort passes through your attic and is lost to the outside elements.
• The Reflective Insulation can expand the use of living space within your home or business. Un-insulated and un-air conditioned spaces such as garages,
workrooms and porches can become more comfortable with the protection of The Reflective Insulation. Attics become cooler and the associated storage space in attics becomes more usable and less damaging to seasonal valuables.
• Makes the Fixed room over garage (FROG) more livable year round.
• Potential reduction in utility bills by up to 45%.
• Conserve energy and help the environment by becoming “Green Sensitive”.
